The Transportation Security Administration (TSA) has extended the federal mask mandate. This time, it has extended to April 18, 2022. This was based on current national data, science and other factors. On the other hand, 21 states in the nation have sued the Center of Disease Control (CDC) to end the mask requirement. Included in the list of defendants is the TSA among other agencies.
The purpose of this lawsuit is to permanently end the mask mandate requirement; as it has been extended several times based on COVID-19 data available at that time. Also, some states believe the continued enforcement could do more harm than good; and that it interferes with local laws.
The lawsuit states the following: "Since the COVID-19 pandemic began, the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention has made 'unprecedented assertion[s] of power.'" Also stating that it's overdue to get rid of the mandate and get back to normal life.
Even the airline industry have petitioned to end the mandate; some due to being tired with dealing with unruly travelers who resist the mandate, and overall it has taken a toll on airline personnel.
Since January 2021, CDC had established the mask mandate for all public transit. This is in order to help stop the spread of COVID-19. This would also keep travelers safe, doing their part in helping stop the spread. Meanwhile, some industries beg to differ. They believe that ending the mask mandate would take off pressure of travelers and those who work in the transit industry.
Without the federal mandate, the use of a mask will be a personal choice for all travelers, a choice that they can feel comfortable and safe with.
